    Cal EMA streams press conference as Cal EMA Secretary Matt Bettenhausen (background) addresses media.Cal EMA Announces Cyber Security Funding
    To upgrade the State’s technology systems and improve public safety, Cal EMA today announced it will award approximately $4.7 million to the Office of the State Chief Information Officer (OCIO). The funds will go toward developing a statewide digital mapping program, also know as geographic information systems (GIS) and cyber security projects.

    On Thursday, December 17, 2009, representatives from the Cal EMA, the California Geological Survey (CGS) and other state, federal, and local government officials participated in a press event at San Franciscos's Moscone Center to launch the newly updated California Tsunami Inundation Maps.

    On Monday, December 14, 2009, Senator Abel Maldonado, nominee for Lt. Governor, visited Cal EMA headquarters to tour the facility and receive a briefing on State emergency management operations.

    Cal EMA joined together with the California Department of Education at the Marin County Office of Education announcing a multi-agency effort to distribute millions of protective masks and gloves to schools throughout California to help prevent the spread of H1N1 and other influenza outbreaks. Cal EMA used nearly $3 million in federal homeland security grant funds to purchase nearly 15 million disposable masks and 10 million protective gloves that are being distributed to all 58 counties.
